Best known for strings for Psychic TV, The Smashing Pumpkins, David J (Bauhaus), and various other ne’er-do-wells, Meena was gifted the seed of her name, ‘Mee,’ by Genesis in Brighton during the 90s. Her 30+ year friendship with Genesis was close, spanning Gen's Brighton TOPY days through to he/r last days in New York, where they lived a few blocks from each other. Most of Mee's time is spent composing music or designing sound for film, which includes a doc about body modification pioneer, Fakir Musafa. Mee’s track for this compilation features original music she recorded with a 44-piece symphony orchestra and remixed alongside voicemails from friends sending well wishes for Gen's good health in 2017, when s/he was first diagnosed with leukemia. The track was performed, arranged, and recorded by Mee at home in NYC, alongside a video which can be viewed on her website
ilovestrings.com and it features voice messages from these people, in order: Caroline Ryder, Aaron Moulton, Darcey Leonard, Thomas Negovan, and Isis Aquarian, with a tiny cameo from Genesis he/rself at 1 min 53 sec, alongside some of the industrial sounds, which Gen and Mee made together playfully, at Gen’s home, Thee Nest. Please note - the voice messages were sent to me for this Sigil track, and each person gave their express permission to use their voice recordings in this track.
